The 2018 Warbirds Over Wanaka International Airshow celebrated 30 years since the first Airshow. To mark the milestone organisers worked hard to bring back some of the aircraft and acts which epitomise the Wanaka event. To this end the RNZAF’s Boeing 757 was back after a 12-year absence, the T-28 Trojan returned for the first time in 10 years, the Buchon Me-109 returned, there was an 11-ship Harvard formation for the first time in years along with glider pilot Doug Hamilton and model aircraft maestro Frazer Briggs back to enthrall the crowds.
Two very different acts also captured the public’s imagination – the USAF F-16 fighter jets making their Wanaka debut and the dropping of a couple of caravans from a great height.
We had around 54,500 attendees.
