Rated as one of the best airshows ever held in New Zealand, Warbirds Over Wanaka roared back into life at Easter 2024 after a six-year hiatus. The aircraft line-up was headlined by two significant ex-RNZAF Warbirds making their airshow debut after lengthy restoration efforts – DH-98 Mosquito NZ2308 and P-51 Mustang NZ2423.
Other feature Warbirds included the Supermarine Spitfire MkIX, Avro Anson Mk1, FG-1D Vought Corsair and Yakovlev-3 ‘Steadfast’ to name a few. The RNZAF and USAF also provided plenty of airshow highlights with the F-16 Fighting Falcon jet display and the RNZAF ‘Thunder Roll’ among the most memorable. And who will forget the amazing flying skills of the ‘American Eagles’ jet formation aerobatic team. Throw in the Red Star Yak-52 and Roaring 40s Harvard display teams, world-class aerobatics, the classic flypast, helicopters and stunning pyrotechnics and you have one of the best Warbirds airshows in the world.
